Underground

Near Milna, in the interior of the island, on the sunny side of the Humi hill, is Pothume. Although abandoned today, Pothume bears witness to the tradition of indigenous island construction, where houses were built of well-processed and high-quality Brač stone, blending in with nature, without disturbing the landscape (part of the settlement has been preserved to this day). The courtyards contained ancillary farm buildings: a well, a cistern, a bread oven, and a stable for livestock. The courtyard around the house and the buildings bear witness to the way of life of Brač families from the 17th century, who were mainly engaged in livestock farming.

Podhume today

Pothume is uninhabited today, but it has begun to be restored in the original style. Due to the bad road leading to the settlement, the plan is to rebuild the local road (plan for 2021), which will certainly increase interest in that sunny and autochthonous village of Brac with a rich past, which has great potential for the development of rural and active tourism.
