NOTICE ON THE DAMAGE REPORTING PROCEDURE DUE TO A FIRE IN THE AREA OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF MILNA

Following the catastrophic fire that struck the area of the Municipality of Milna on September 10, 2026 and caused extensive material damage to property, the Municipality of Milna hereby provides instructions on further steps in the process of assessing and compensating for damage.

In order for the procedure to be carried out legally and efficiently, it is necessary to follow a precisely defined protocol in several key stages:

Protocol and steps to report damage:

1.      Official fire extinguishing – The first prerequisite for initiating any further activities is the official declaration of the fire as extinguished by the competent fire services.

2.      The committee's field trip - Upon completion of the intervention, the Municipal Commission for the Assessment of Damages from Natural Disasters will go out to the field for a preliminary determination of the extent of the damage.

3.      Request for declaration of natural disaster – Based on the field report, the Municipality of Milna will submit a formal request to the Prefect of the Split-Dalmatia County to adopt a Decision on declaring a natural disaster.

4.      Official call to citizens – Only after the decision to declare a natural disaster has been made, the Municipality of Milna will publish it on its official website (www.opcinamilna.hr) publish a public invitation to injured parties with the prescribed application form.

Required documentation:

Due to the prescribed deadline for submitting a report of material damage, which will be 8 days from the date of the decision on the declaration of a natural disaster, we appeal to all injured parties to prepare in advance all the necessary documentation that is attached to the application form:

  • Proof of the legality of the building: Decision on the completed state or confirmation of the initiated procedure or building permit or occupancy permit (if applicable).
  • Ownership status: Proof of ownership or legal possession (e.g. extract from the land register, title deed or other
  • documentation proving ownership or legal possession),
  • Agricultural status: Proof of registration in the Farmers' Register (for damage to agricultural land and crops).
  • Photo documentation: Photos of damaged property resulting ago any repair work.
  • Police report: Records of the competent police station on the damage caused (not mandatory, but its acquisition is recommended as additional evidence of the circumstances and occurrence of the damage).
  • Financial evidence: Original invoices for all purchased goods, works or services used to restore the property to its original condition.
  • Insurance: Property insurance policies (if the property was insured).

Important note:

Until the official public call for damage reports is published, no individual claims need to be submitted..

The application period will begin on the day when The prefect officially declares a natural disaster.
