Life on an island – life at and from the sea

Islands are specific spatial-social communities where all aspects of life (economic, social, historical, cultural, environmental) have a completely different dimension than life on the mainland. Not only do people live differently on islands, but time also “passes differently”; life on an island is defined by the sea, which is an inexhaustible source of salt, minerals, energy and food, and one of the oldest transport routes. The ecological vulnerability of the sea is more pronounced today than ever before and requires special attention and care from residents (and more recently tourists) in order to preserve the natural values of the sea and the coast.
